American Jihadists? Yee-Fucking-Ha!!

3 March, 2010

I have been asked, through email and through comments, why I, as an atheist, give a flying fuck about theists — about what believers do, or think, or believe.  Why do I blog about religion and belief in god(s) if I am an unbeliever?

There are many reasons I blog.  I blog to help me understand who I am.  I blog to poke fun at political and religious absurdity.  And I blog because I am scared abso-fucking-lutely shitless about the radical right. Read the rest of this entry ?

Breaking the Back of America

22 November, 2009

Conservatives are the backbone of America.  Their respect for the Constitution of the United States, their respect for the laws of America, their respect for the President of the United States of America (whether they agree with his political views or not), their battles for equal rights for all humans, and their Christian ethics, including a sense of love and respect for all life are the epitome of exemplars of good old fashioned Americanism to which we should all aspire. An Addendum to A Kentucky Hat Trick of Stupid

12 September, 2009

Oddly (and this is from Ed Brayton’s Dispatches from the Culture Wars), kids from Breckinridge High School, in Kentucky, do not need parental permission to be taken to a  Baptist revival by their football coach.  The kids did  need a signed permission slip from their parents to listen to Barrack Obama’s education pep talk! Sarah Palin and America’s Over-Worked Mental Health Professionals

14 July, 2009

I remember some odd dinner time conversations when my Mom was going to college.  She took lots of psych courses (undergrad and graduate school) and the subject of sanity came up at least once a week or so (not sure why that subject would come up;  after all, I was at the table).  She said, repeatedly, that mental health, specifically abnormal mental health, is really hard to diagnose.  The various mental illnesses are referred to as spectrums because almost no one ever exhibits all, or even a majority, of the various symptoms.

Now, thanks to right wing whackaloon politics, we have a reasonably accurate gauge of sanity.  Read the rest of this entry ?

Yea Tho’ I Drive Through the Valley of Christians . . . .

29 December, 2008

(((Wife)), (((Boy))), (((Girl))) and I had a wonderful (for the most part) holiday with (((Wife)))’s family down in Florida.   We drove down Monday night into Tuesday morning, spent the 24th at the Magic Kingdom (with a fantastic meal at the Crystal Palace restaurant), enjoyed Christmas day at the in-laws, visited Epcot on Friday, and had a huge meal at the Cheesecake Factory and went for a boat ride on Saturday and drove home on Sunday.  The drive down and back is an easy one:  I-81 to I-77 to I-26 to I-95 to I-4 (and the reverse for the trip home) and just under 1,100 miles (about 18 hours (including stops for meals)).   Here are a few observations from our trip: Read the rest of this entry ?

Two Truly Bizarre Bumper Stickers

23 November, 2008

I stopped off this morning to get fuel ($2.05.9 a gallon (which shows just how bad our economy is right now)).  The BMW X5 SUV in front of me had two rather scary bumper stickers.  The first said:

Vote For The Hand That Rocks The Cradle:  Palin 2012

And the second:

Let The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Rock America:  Vote Palin! Read the rest of this entry ?
