Keep Your Kids Home From School to Protest the Importance of Education?

2 September, 2009

I suspect that all of us have relatives or friends who have bought into the fear and loathing , lies and deceit, and the dishonesty and vitriol of the radical political and religious right.  And I suspect that many of you get emails with the latest absurd meme being pushed by Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, Dobbs, Coulter, Drudge,or any of sundry other right-wing talking heads.

Today, I got one dropped into my family email.  I had already thoroughly trashed the sender when I noticed that a DailyKos bloggerby the name of Jed Lewison had gotten virtually the same email.  Which means that many of you may have gotten it.  And your average right-wing teabagging NOMer has probably gotten it and passed it on a hundred times by now.  I swear that a right-wing meme can sweep the country before the truth can even get its pants on (sorry, Sam Clemens).

Here’s my version:

NOTE TO OBAMA :

President Obama’s Address to Students Across America September 8, 2009

I wouldn’t have such a problem with the Department of Education were this presented in a non-Orwellian fashion. Oh yes, it is, as the lesson plan directs, to listen to what t he president, the mayor, et al. says, to respect their “authoritah”, but there is no emphasis in here on why the president and other elected officials should listen to US. The focus is solely on authority. There is no consideration given to the authority of the American people. That’s what concerns me.

There is this mindset that those in Washington are the “elite,” that we should mind our Ps and Qs and blindly follow their directives. That’s not the manner of governance upon which this country was founded – it is quite the opposite; even the hobbyist Constitutional aficionado appreciates this.
So yes, keep your kids home on September 8th and teach them that the power of America rests in the hands of its people, no one else. Word is traveling fast on the internet, between bloggers and twitter, the choice is clear : No school for kids on September 8th due to the beginning of Socialist Indoctrination of Americas children.

NOTE TO OBAMA :

LEAVE OUR KIDS ALONE !!!!

HITLER DID THE SAME!!!!

THEY CALLED IT THE HITLER JOUTH!!!!

Take a day of vacation. Go to the zoo. Anything that would save your offspring from what I will bluntly say is just the quasi-fellating the executive branch. That cackling over a bubbling cauldron you hear is the NEA rejoicing.

I remember, back in high school, gathering in the classrooms with televisions to hear President Reagan’s Challenger Speech.  My kids remember a Bush anti-drug speech(that’s what we call ironic) which was broadcast to the classrooms (a waste of 15 minutes which could have been used for something, well, shall we say, useful).  Now I am a progressive liberal.  Have been since I learned how to think.  My parents didn’t pull me out of school because a radical neo-conservative who was out to destroy the government was speaking.  We didn’t pull our little moppets out of class because a dry drunk who was giving America away to his cronies was speaking.

They want to pull their kids out of class to protest a talk on the importance of education.  What’s next?  Pulling their kids out of comprehensive sex-education classes to prevent pregnancy?  Oh.  Never mind.

This should be unremarkable.  The President of the United States of America, a man who achieved his position through personal brilliance and drive, hard work and scholarships (received because of his good grades), talking to school children about the importance of education strikes me as a pretty damn good idea.   Are the radical right-wingers really that afraid of education?  Or are they just pissed that a black Democrat defeated the philandering and incompetent McCain and the batshit-crazy Palin?  I wonder if the various right-wing meme-mongers realize that they are protesting a talk about the importance of education?

Well, I guess that if you want people to believe that tax cuts increase revenue, that America is a Christian nation, that tax cuts for the rich help the economy, that health care for all is slavery, and that Saddam Hussein ran al Qaeda, then keeping the kids out of school could be a viable long-term strategy.

  1. So what will all the folks who home-school their kids do on September 8 to protest? Send their kids to the local public school?

  2. This madness makes me sad for America. To read the hateful things the right are saying to their children after the most historic election in history must be confusing to the kids. They are giving a bigger than life size display of their own bigotry, racism and stupidity.

Only and idiot would equate a Presidential speech encouraging youth education with a Hitler youth indoctrination.

Religious/political cults where the answer to everything is NO and the source of truth is Glen Beck—America is on a path to definite trouble.

  3. Americas used as a possessive without an apostrophe? Hitler Jouth?

Obviously, whoever started that silly message stayed home from school quite a bit.

  4. i the president actualy talks about education i’d have no problem with it. won’t happen though. this is indocrination. just like the hitler jugend. just like the young comsomol league. just like statist schools. just like the yippies of the 60’s.

my kids are out of school. my grandkids arent in school yet. if they were i’d be telling my kids to keep their kids out of school.

and George W. Bush never addressed at school. he is smart enough to not try to indocrinate kids. personality cults are a thing of the left. hitler and stalin and lenin, and mao and pinochet and mussolini and all the other left dictators did the same thing. indoctrinate the children.

dont let it happen to your kids. stop hussein before he destroys America.

  5. and one other thing. hussein did not go to good schools because of his grades. he was being groomed by the radical left so that socialism could take over after a disaster. get your history straight. deal with reality.

  6. Mutzali: And once again, a commenteer adds the missing part of the post.

Jeff: No, not idiots. Just people who are so frightened, who have been frightened, of any possibility of change, that they will embrace any lie no matter how absurd.

Nan: Methinks English class was not a favourite subject. This type of right winger doesn’t cotton to furren langwages. Like English.

Jeff Davis: Welcome back. Thank you for proving my point. And your conspiracy theory is that he was groomed for. . . . What the hell am I doing? The sky is not plaid. And your keyboard HAS A SHIFT KEY!!!11!1!!1!

  7. Just curious, Jeff Davis, was the ‘disaster’ Barrack Obama was groomed to take over after George W? That’s been the biggest disaster in the US since the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression.

  8. George W. Bush never addressed at school

That may be correct – I don’t know offhand and I don’t care to research it. I do recall, however, that he read My Pet Goat to schoolchildren while Americans were attacked. Upon learning of the attack, he didn’t politely excuse himself and lead the country during its time of crisis – he assumed a deer-in-the-headlights demeanor and waited for over seven minutes for his staff to tell him what he was going to do – which was fly around in Air Force One for several hours and figure out what to do. If he never “addressed at school,” it’s probably a good thing.

  9. Chappie: I may be wrong. From what I have read, it was Bush I who addressed the school children and even asked them to write him letters telling him what kind of job he was doing. Then again, Reagan was selling his tax cuts and anti-gun control to small children, but I guess that, if you’re a Republican, its okay.

  10. I wouldn’t have such a problem with the Department of Education were this presented in a non-Orwellian fashion.
…says someone who clearly doesn’t get nineteen eighty-four at all.

There is this mindset that those in Washington are the “elite,” that we should mind our Ps and Qs and blindly follow their directives.
And from 2000-2009 it would’ve just been “Those in Washington are the “elite,” that we should mind our Ps and Qs and blindly follow their directives.”, and the email would’ve been about how we mustn’t question the president.

Jeff Davis “i the president actualy talks about education i’d have no problem with it. won’t happen though. this is indocrination.”
We expect a written apology when your paranoid fantasy bears no fruit.
“and George W. Bush never addressed at school.”
    Well…
“personality cults are a thing of the left.”
    Um…
“hitler and stalin and lenin, and mao and pinochet and mussolini and all the other left dictators did the same thing, indoctrinate the children.”
Half of those weren’t “left” (hint: although it uses elements from both sides, well…). Anyway, “indoctrination” isn’t a left-right thing, it’s an authoritarian thing (although the right does it better, as conservatives value tradition and authority more than those dirty hippies do).
“stop hussein before he destroys America.”
I’ve been asking this a lot since the election, but where the fuck where you for the last eight years?
“and one other thing. hussein did not go to good schools because of his grades. he was being groomed by the radical left so that socialism could take over after a disaster.”
Obviously. The Pinko-Illuminatti picked a poor brown kid in Chicago thirty years ago and groomed him to be president.
In this universe, however, he worked for it. Not everybody comes from a dynasty family like the Kennedys or the Bushs.
“get your history straight. deal with reality.”
At worst that’s a tu quoque.
