McCain and the Women’s Vote

10 September, 2008

One of the hopes of McCain’s Rovian Minions (MRMs) was that Sarah Palin would attract the votes of White Women.  Unfortunately, it appears to have worked (in the short term, most likely):  White Women have moved from Obama by 12 points to McCain by 8 points.  Perhaps White Women need to be reminded just how much John S. McCain respects women.

Let’s step into the WayBack Machine.  All the way back to last century.  1986, to be exact.  Speaking to the National League of Cities and Towns in Washington, DC, McCain said:

Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, “Where is that marvelous ape?”

Sex is wonderful fodder for humour.  Jokes about rape, an act of sexual violence which has little to do with sex, is most definately not Kosher.

Wait.  That was 22 years ago.  I was a twenty-year-old sophomore in college trying to figure out how to get the girl-who-would-be-known-as-(((Wife))) to notice me.  I’m certainly not the same person I was back then.  I’ve grown.  Matured.  Developed some distinguished gray hair (shut up, (((Girl))), it’s gray, not white!).  Maybe John McCain has matured.

Not too long ago (back in June, to be exact), the McCain campaign scheduled a fundraiser with a Texas oilman who offered up rape as equivalent to the weather while running for governor. “As long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it,” said Clayton Williams in 1990. The public noticed.  The event was postponed.  That way, McCain could say he was sensitive to women (especially young ones, apparently (down, boy!)) and Williams (the erstwhile gubernatorial candidate) didn’t have to tell all his rich pals that the event was cancelled.

Add to this McCain’s treatment of Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, his first wife, all of his mistresses, and all of Hillary Clinton’s supporters (vote for McCain, McCain selected a woman as his running mate), and we see a definate pattern of mysogynistic authoritarianism.

Wake up and take your meds, Mr. McCain.  It is no longer the 1950s.  Women are a fully integrated part of our economic, social and cultural life in America.  I know it’s hard,  but try treating women as human beings, not tits, asses, cunts, ovaries, wombs and dresses.

  1. Ah, but the man has so much respect for his wife

  2. “try treating women as human beings, not tits, asses, cunts, ovaries, wombs and dresses”

    You left out thighs.

  3. I have no idea how Sarah Palin can stand to be in the same room with John McCain.

  4. Yushui: Surely, you jest.

Ric: We could list every physical part of a woman and people like McCain would still not recognize the whole as being human.

Chappie: She sees him as a way to gain the power to force the Rapture. I think she would let him do her, or her daughter, for the chance at becoming President.

  5. (((Billy))), thank you so much for that mental image.

  6. Yunshui: No problem. I hope no liquid hit your keyboard. Do you ever feel like you need to bleach your brain? Or blind your mind’s eye?
